@EastCoastOp – its ok, no big deal. :)

@survivalistboards That’s how we talk around here, some people say, ‘guy’, ‘dude’, ‘buddy’. Didn’t mean he was a child/minor. The real ignorance comes from “diopterman”, I knew he wasn’t a young, and didn’t mean any disrespect.

    Great info thanks!

@bigtintheheat – you need room between the plants for the potatoes to grow. Also, if we have any left over from planting, I’ll go back in between and plant the extra a little more dense.

2 years ago I had them planted about 2 feet apart, and it worked out well

    who owns that land?

  6. patrikasLTL - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

IT’s funny to watch americans try to learn to plant potatoes on their own. I watch and can’t stop thinking like “those good for nuttin’ city folks.. causin all the trouble *spit* ”

    1) Buy a plow and get a small tracktor/ something with horsepower.
    2)Plow that shit
    3)Till that shit
4)Plant three times denser than you just did.

Fertiliser is good. But if you want it to be healthy and you wanna grow IN BULK to feed an entire community, then manure is your best bet.

  10. bigtintheheat - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

  12. lamont22222 - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

if your using a natural fertilizer like wood ash why mix it with a chemical fertilizer also i thought potatoes like acidic soil like 5.0-6.0?

  13. problyontheredlist - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

  14. wbradss - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

God -I hate front tine tillers-They will work you to death.

  15. SerenityGene - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

    @bakeee
You don’t have to be wealthy to to have land.

  16. scruffymeigs - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

LOL! Kev would have made a good overseer.

  17. YTMegiddo - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

Ah… I saw bare feet tilling! That one set of tough feet.

  18. PartisonConfederate - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

Just answered my own question. The reason you spread them out is for growth.

  19. Diopterman - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

    Even worse!

    He should know better!

  20. PartisonConfederate - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

Why do you plant them every 5 feet Kev?

  21. survivalistboards - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

@Diopterman – the guy running the tiller with no shoes is grown and 27 years old. If he wants to risk having his toes cut off, that is his choice.

  22. survivalistboards - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

@EastCoastOp – that “kid” as you call him is 27 years old.

  23. Sherri119 - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

True….but if anyone on here is like me, you make do with what you have.

  24. Diopterman - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

And the parent/adult should step up and teach the young ones the proper and SAFE use of power equipment!

  25. bakeee - February 24th, 2010 at 5:57 am

you must be fairly wealthy, considering your life style
