Nice beds! Kudos to Hubby!
Several layers of newspaper is very good to line your beds with.
I keep a cooper bucket with a lid next to my garbage can and put all my compost friendly scraps in there and take it to my compost pile every couple of days.
My compost bin is just 3 pallets, 1 in the back & 2 on the sides. I actually have 3 bins, so 7 pallets. I left the front open. I can rotate my compost well this way. I love having contorl of what my plants are growing in.
you acutally know so fal and tha drainage pro thing.
Liner is a good idea down here in Fl. Not only for the weeds, but since the sand is like a sieve, you’d be surprised how fast things can run right though it.
Sent you a pm.
We have evile chich bug here so we tend to kill the grass.. all of it. thus way I did my thing. The plan was simple one side was short the other side made it even.. I’ll make hubby do a vid on it, good luck.
can you tell me more about this.. I realy would like to learn.
yeah I am on the same page mdcc has a lot for workers and programs for employees. so yes I will be using the ndcc mulch very soon.
…Just thought I’d let you know, because as you know, living on the So. Fl sandbar, its hard to find nice soil. Those beds you have, I would pack them full with this stuff(and plant directly in it immediately) but within a year it breaks down to excellent soil.
Carmen, I live near West Palm beach and I have for years getting nice mulch at the South Florida Waste Authority (sorta like the best kept secret around here). I don’t know if you have one around you, but I have been growing in their “mulch” for years, and its free. I think the best thing to amend your soil with. I actually grow tomatoes right IN it and they do Great! ..its a very dark stinky mulch. and if you go on their website they will show you what its made of…
You can layer newspaper under your planting soil to keep down weeds very effectively, but it still allows for drainage.
Where did you find the plan for the structure of your beds?
Great vid. I’m learning a lot! =^[.]^=
I did not put down the liners in my beds. As long as you have a good 8 or so inches of soil, it will not grow up through there. There is more weeds getting thrown into the beds from the top than growing from the bottom.
$175, WOW. Of course I do not have enough to fill all of my beds so I might have to break down and do that too.
Well although he doesn’t agree with me on all issues, I’ve basically gave him a lot of information back in summer 08 and he’s been educating himself as well. It does help a lot that he’s helping me prepare.
Looks great!! So nice that your hubby is on the same page with you in “preparing”.
