Most people I think have grown up shopping for foods in the supermarkets. Maybe some have grown up on farms and perhaps have had gardens but because the US is an industrialized nation markets became a convenience for the people I think . Our prompting to have a garden though came with the potential “hard” economic times that sit in front of us and down the road. We are doing all that we can to be prepared! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you, but I do not think it is so much ignorance as much as it is people are lazy and do not want to take the time to even try to grow and produce there own food. They think it is easier to shop the market for it. Or this is how most are here in the USA. I have been growing my own a while and enjoy it. Its a good stress re leaver and it tastes much better than the crap at the stores.

Dude did you see the size of the cracks between the door and the door frame? His heating bills in the winter must be outrageous! You might want to put some insulation foam on these cracks to reduce cost of heating in the winter. Mike, London, On.

I think another side benefit of permaculture is that you could keep people working more steady hours. Instead of one big harvest you could have several staggered apart.
As far as GM foods, I think they have promise. But they were rushed to market. It should have been tested for at least another decade before release.

wow i love that term food terrorism. thats the perfect wood for it. unresponsible agriculture is a scary thing in my opinion

This is a big issue in the world. The movie FOOD INC lays it all out there pretty well. You should check it out. Also a book by Michael Polan called Omnivore’s Dilema is great reading material on this topic.

What right does any gov’t have to tell u what to grow (not talking narcotics) on your own property when it harms no one? They are trying to get the public totally dependent on the gov’t for everything we spend, eat, and otherwise consume. Stop spending if u want prices to drop in order to make a change. Banks, businesses, & gov’t gets panicky if we dont spend money. Get the hint? Live minimally until representatives start representing the majority as they no longer are doing. Vote them out!

  10. kokonutbaby1 - December 28th, 2009 at 5:46 am

I dont think the gov’t prodded by big industry should serve us up GM products w/out labeling it as such..that is wrong! People have a right to know what they are consuming & how it may harm them. Nothing will be done about it talking..people need to come out in numbers in protest to washington & parliaments, etc. Talk gets ignored & petitions get trash canned. You will never make change unless u step out in their faces in numbers. Some are even trying to pass laws against organic gardening.

Genetically modified foods fish and tomato genetics put together that type of thing

  12. StevoJN - December 28th, 2009 at 5:46 am

I agree man! I’m not keen on gm food at all, but if woolies doesn’t advertise what it is, then I don’t have much choice tho as to what I can buy here in central qld – Too hot for growing much through summer, lettuce for example goes to seed as soon as it gets about half grown.

I am an American who enjoys your videos very much. I agree with you about genetically modified foods. There will be repercussions.
I personally want to grow my own food because I think the US is headed for an economic collapse.
I’m one of those Bible clinging, gun toting, redneck conservatives you are always hearing about. (Don’t worry, I’m not dangerous.)
I have enjoyed your channel for a full year now, and I must admit, I sometimes wonder what you must think of us “Americans”.

I know the psychological attackers will come after me for making a comment. ….. but you are absolutely right. Christians should be more interested in this since the Old Testament says that God put is in charge of the beasts to name them – which means to me that we should treat them well before they go to slaughter.

  15. Beardedyoungman - December 28th, 2009 at 5:46 am

this is very false, gmo is about controlling the food source from an economic standpoint not from a social standpoint. Te economic goals of people who force these trends has served only to strangle out the local and willing farmers. watch that documentary mentioned below.. enough milk prodeced in the US to give whole world 1 glass a day, most of it gets dumped due to laws which make farmers produce more they can sell.. you need to have certain # of chickens to get licence to sell eggs..

  16. djeraser - December 28th, 2009 at 5:46 am

I do dislike the GM food however i do tend to believe that it is the path needed to sustain the massive populations in the world, If you have room i do agree you should grow your own vegies etc. The knowledge is dieing with each generation. I personally find things like: “how do i know if i have dug far enough down in clay soil”, “what should be grown together”, “What should i be planting and where”, “What are the warning signs of plantx is in stress or too much water” hard to find answers for.

Ever watched the documentary FOOD INC.??

  18. msamour - December 28th, 2009 at 5:46 am

My bad nevermind. We Canadians when we see cracks like that can’t help but thinking you must be freezing your butt off in the winter. then again I forgot you are in the middle of summer there. Cheers!

The main reason farmers do what they do is to make money. We make money & buy their produce because we as a society are removed from our food as we are busy making money. Change needed to come long ago. It is now probably too late as the GM pollen is spread. It is difficult for farmers to see a way to change as that means a move from mono culture & secure market. As a whole persons need to broaden their own food base & move out of the comfort zone. Instead of bread a nice different salad.

no including “narcotics” what right does anyone have to say what I or anyone else does to them self. as long as you are not beat raping anyone then who cares. you may not like what they are doing but where does the justification stop if someone does not like the bible or anyone reading then we should just criminalize it. freedom is not free sometimes we have to put up with other life styles in order to protect are own i think we need to label GMO because it is not a life style i want to chose

It’s not just hormones in the meat birds, it’s the bred-for traits that renders the chicken unable to stand on it’s legs because they are too heavy. They are bred to be as heavy as they can be just before they are slaughtered. When these commercialized birds are raised by people who do not slaughter them by 5-6 weeks of age, thier freakishness emerges and the poor things cannot stand on their own legs.

Good report, and I hope you are enjoying your warm weather!

i think the greatest threat of gm foods is that of self terminating seeds. because they have found gm foods cross pollinating with near by crops and weeds which are part of the ecosystem which we live off of not grocery stores. then there is the law issues from the cross pollinating that farms get sued when have gene code that they “own”. also some of the enzymes that are in organic food are not in GM foods enzymes that help fight cancer. thanks for post
