Fantastic. For successful ways of growing your own or taking the first small step towards sustainability, type Permaculture into your search engine. “Revolution disguised as gardening.” Thank you, Dervaes, my small steps keep leading to inspiration and I found it again in your video!! Respect from Bristol, England.

LOVE this video!!! Environmental Horticulture major here…dreaming of becoming self sustained, living “off the grid” is my lifetime goal. You don’t have to be a “hippy” to agree, just someone with a brain.

Where does your comment come from? How can it be “wrong” to grow your own food on your own land? I feel sorry for you, mate….

Geez, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits all make what? Plus compost from the vegetable material (the plants after the veggies have been harvested).

How can you afford the fertilizer?

  11. limeffdd - January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 am

It makes sense. Of course everything has a benefactor of a side, and an impacting side.

once again, “Survival of the fittest”

If everyone ate organically, then no one would eat the junk food, and people would lose hunks of money.

Therefore they advertise more junk food commercials in that risk attempting to be hidden.

Because of that, those that are smart enough will eat organic. Those that don’t will be there to keep the money flowing.

    Organic is my kind :D

I sure appreciate this. Deep respect! I wonder what my balcony can produce. It is a inspiration indeed, and I wish the Dervaes nothing but good, and success with their gardening, and example forming for the Western world.

I watch this video again and again. It’s great positive vibes amidst the craziness going on in the world.
I’ve done a lot of organic gardening myself, it’s amazing! To produce your own natural toxics free vegetables and fruits is paradise.
If you’ve enough area, source of honest income as well, besides having super healthy food.

Check “Gardens of Destiny” documentary as well, very uplifting as this here.

CONTINUED: To take the idea further, you can make your own clothes, create some really cool, trendy fashions, even. Learn DIY Crafts & stuff. Make your own Toys! You can recreate or at least mimick the junk in the stores for just a few bucks, none of it going to China or Bigwigs out there! Just think, your own fashion dolls! Your own toy vehicles! Make your own jewelry! The sky’s the limit! If you’re good at art, sewing & basic carpentry, you can do ANYTHING!!!

  21. SpukiKitty1975 - January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 am

Great concept! Y’know, I think a small, yard greenhouse would possibly be good for growing high-climate produce in low-climates. I also would entertain the idea of using Terra-Cotta pots for ameteurs as well as those in apartments. I’ve also spotted some channels on YouTube where you can make your own energy & water supply, etc. I for one will take up bike-riding everywhere & for LONG distances, public transportation (if possible). I like the self-sufficency idea.

  22. YamadaKeisai - January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 am

This looks great. But I occasionally see news stories about people in the U.S. who got themselves into some trouble with city officials when they tried to do the same thing. It seems that some cities only want homes to have short grass even if people are making their homes more beautiful and productive.

  23. yashamill - January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 am

    Fantastic video. 5* and fav’ed.

  24. peacelovechocolate - January 28th, 2009 at 5:39 am

I came to the same conclusion three or four years ago.

Thank you for not only “being the change” but sharing that energy as inspiration. That is no small thing.

    Keep asking questions!
