Most every landscape or garden is designed to accommodate the lifestyle and vision of the home owner. Putting up Christmas decorations and lights durring the holidays is a favorite tradition and activity for a lot of people. So designing their landscaping with electrical outlets and access throughout the landscaping can prove to be a huge time saver as well as very convenient when time for holiday decorating.
For most people, making their landscaping Christmas ready only means that certain festive looking plants are considered and added to the garden for winter. A lot of evergreens like the Holly for instance, symbolize the Christmas season while adding color to the landscaping all Winter long. They’re also a common plant for making wreaths. Many other plants that produce red berries, again like the Holly, also can create a Christmas atmosphere throughout the Winter landscape.
While adding Winter interest to landscapes and gardens can be as simple as adding certain types of plants, Winter interest isn’t necessarily the real topic of this article. What this article addresses first is the folks that go all out to decorate their yard and home for the holidays. They may want to consider how they can add decorating, decorations, and Christmas lighting to their landscaping and garden designs. What this means is to provide electricity access throughout the whole landscape.
Some of the Christmas decorations and lighting displays of today are quite elaborate and require a lot of electricity to run them. From just a few decorations and lights to huge computerized visual displays of lights that spread out over the whole yard. The electrical outlets and power needed to run these lights and displays may be far more than the outlets and power available from the home. The majority of landscaping plans don’t ever consider christmas yard decorations or installing electrical access close to where its needed to operate them. Directly in and throughout the landscape.
Besides Christmas and other holiday decorations, electric boxes placed in your yard can be a convenience for other things. And while we most generally plan for low voltage electrical lighting throughout the landscape, very few of our clients ever consider the need for house current in the yard until we mention it as an option in their design.
Once you decide to add electricity for holiday decorating to your landscaping or yard, all of the electrical should be installed by professionals. There’s is no room for error with electricity. The electrical network designed to power the decorations should have its own dedicated circuit. With its own designated source of power, you’ll have the assurance of always having plenty of juice for the entire system. Also, if anything goes wrong with the system, it can be worked on and maintained without shuting down the power to the house.
One last thought for adding electicity throughout your yard and gardens is the visibility of the receptacles. If you have the opportunity to hide the electrical outlets from view, you should do so. If there are flower beds or other planting areas in the yard or landscaping, electrical junctions can be hidden in with the plants or other ground cover. They can also be hidden in specially designed weatherproof outlets that are installed directly in the ground. They’re there when you need them but otherwise stay hidden when you don’t. And they’re generally not affected by outside conditions like irrigation or mowing.
Again, every landscape or garden design is created different and should have considerations according to the wants and needs of the owner. Christmas decorations and decorating for other holidays is a big thing for a lot of people. Planning dedicated electrical access into their landscaping can prove to be a convenient time saving addition when it comes to time to decorate for the holidays.
