I use the paint ball gun to shoot near them to not at them. It takes a couple of "near misses" for them to get the message to stay away but it works. But just like peanuts, you need to keep doing it for it to work if killing them is out of the question. Either way they are smart little jerks that happen to be very cute and very persistent in my opinion. That's just me, I feel bad about killing flies.
