I want to grow one of these in Minnesota, how can I care for a lemon tree in MN? Will I need to keep it in bright light during the winter months?

    Hi,
It was the dead of a bad wineter, the end of December with ice on the roads. We drove in two cars, hooked by cb radio. When we stoppped for the night, all the plants had to be unladed and brought into the hotel room. Likewise reloaded the next morning. They all did fine.

Sphagum moss is great to work with. I agree on the gloves and mask thing abd have a soecial video in which I talk about those situations. It’s really nice to hear about the success you are having. Thanks for writing.

If you live in an area that sells nursery stock of fruiting trees, you can get them there. I don’t layer the roots. I use sphagnum moss as a substrate, and because the tropical trees has such a great growth rate, the trunks will thiken fairly fast, and by directional pruning, you can keep the overall size down. Take a look at the “Mystery” plant (Banyan(?)Ficus(?) video and you will see what can happen in one year or so.

Thank you for adding this video. i am very interested in lemon or apple tree’s, or any plant that grows fruit, i have been looking for them everywhere. And i was also wondering how you layer the roots to make the trunk thicker.
    Thanks, Nick

OK, I have watched all your videos. They are very informative and interesting to watch. At first I was very skeptical about using spagnum moss only. I assumed it would be too acidic for alot of trees. I potted a couple of Azaelas in it this past spring and they are doing great. When I pot up some late this fall(it is 100 in Texas)I am going to try it on other things. I do think you should wear a mask and gloves when using with the moss. Thanks for the great videos…

I HAVE TRIED AIR LAYERING AND BEEN MAINLY UNSUCCESSFUL AT IT. I HAVE NEVER TRIED IT WHILE LIVING IN FLORIDA, SO MAYBE I WILL GIVE IT A TRY AND MAKE A VIDEO OF IT. THANKS FOR THE IDEA. YOU WRAP A BRANCH IN WET SPHAGNUM MOSS, SURROUNDED BY A PLASTIC COVERING, AND WAIT FOR ROOTS TO SRPOUT. yOU MAY HAVE TO MAKE SMALL CUTS IN THE BRANCH TO GET THINGS STARTED, BUT I AM NOT SURE AS IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I HAVE DONE IT. THEN YOU CUT THE BRANCH BELOW THE NEW ROOTS AND PLANT.
