Kitchen composting has started becoming more popular, because people have started understanding how important it is to reduce the amount of trash we generate. And most of us have also learned just how critical saving money can be in tough times. Kitchen composting allows us to reduce our trash output, reuse things the way nature intended, and save a lot of money in the long run too. In fact, using kitchen fruit and vegetable scraps for composting can save us money, allow us to become a little more self sufficient over time, and help improve the environment too.
How it helps saves money:
Anyone that grows an indoor or outdoor garden probably ends up buying potting soil, fertilizer, and maybe even pre-made compost each time they have new plants or seeds to add to their garden. If you start using what you already have on hand though - specifically the organic fruit and vegetable matter in your kitchen - you’ll quickly find you don’t have to spend hard earned money buying compost or dangerous chemicals. And to make saving the money that much sweeter: Your food will be tastier, safer, and healthier for you too.
How it helps you become self sufficient:
Once you start composting your kitchen scraps, you’re likely to find yourself also wanting to grow more of your own food. After all, if you’re creating nutrient rich soil that will grow the best fruits and vegetables, why in the world should you want to pay for sub-par produce at the grocery store?
By growing some or all of your own food, you create a more sustainable situation for yourself and your family. Instead of worrying about whether you have money to buy groceries from one week to the next, you’ll find yourself with plenty of tasty, fresh food for most of the year.
You don’t have to become a farmer to become a little more self sufficient either. Anyone can grow food inside their homes with container gardens, or outside in the yard with small garden plants.
How it helps the environment:
Many people are finally starting to realize some of the big benefits brought about when they take the small step of creating compost out of their kitchen scraps. For too long now we’ve lived in a throw away society. Even those things which can be reused or recycled tend to get thrown into the trash - including organic matter which is easy to compost.
This creates a cycle which demands the constant creation and manufacturing of new goods. And it encourages commercial farmers to use dangerous chemicals as fertilizers and pesticides. The simple act of learning how to compost your kitchen scraps helps to dramatically reduce some of these pollutants in our world… especially as people start growing their own foods too. Using your own homemade kitchen compost means you will no longer be buying or using dangerous chemicals in your own gardens, and as time goes on you may even be able to reduce your consumption of store bought produce too. And the less we all buy of that, the less it will be mass produced and distributed.
If you’re just starting out with a greenhouse, it’s important that you make the right choices in lighting. Lighting is a critical factor in a plant’s development. Choosing the right kind of light will ensure that your plants grow quickly and remain healthy. If you need some help figuring out your best options in greenhouse lighting, here are some tips that will help you make the right choice.
1. The first thing you need to do is figure out the amount of light you will require. The factors you need to consider are the type of plants you’re going to raise, and the size of your greenhouse. Tall plants, fruit and flowers need more light than other plants. An outdoor greenhouse will typically use 25 watts per square foot. However, indoor greenhouses require at least twice as much light.
2. The kind of light you use should be suitable for the plants you’re growing. Something that impacts plant growth to a great extent is the kind of light waves that are given off. For instance, if you want optimal growth for fruit or flowers, use high pressure sodium lights. These give off red light waves which are beneficial for encouraging growth hormones in plants. If you’re growing leafy plants, they’ll thrive under the blue spectrum, which metal halide lighting is best at providing.
3. Don’t let your lighting overheat your plants. They can die from becoming overheated. Some lights release a lot of heat when they’re running. For instance, incandescent lighting gives off a lot of heat. Since the light they provide isn’t considered to be sufficient for most plants, they’re really not a good choice. Fluorescent grow lights, on the other hand, produce much less heat. Make sure you compare how much heat each lighting option produces before making your purchase.
4. Use lighting that will produce good results without consuming massive amounts of energy. High intensity discharge lights are the most energy efficient type of indoor greenhouse lighting available. Unfortunately, they’re also the most expensive to purchase. LCD grow lamps are rapidly gaining in popularity because of their energy efficiency. As well, they give off less heat.
Regardless of the type of greenhouse lighting you choose, it’s important that it not be left on all the time. Lighting should only be used where and when it is needed. Plants need darkness, too, in order to grow properly. Leave the lights off for 6 to 12 hours each day in your garden greenhouse, depending on what kind of plants you have.
Lighting is an essential component of any great home design. Without the right home lighting, even the best and most extravagantly furnished home will look badly designed. - It is also important to consider the covering of the greenhouse. The most advisable shades are the expensive glass made coverings and fiberglass. They provide more durability and they do not deteriorate quickly compared to plastic coverings. A greenhouse covered with glass or fiberglass allows more humidity and warmth.
- You have the option to choose on what kind of foundation you would like to use. The foundations can be concrete for a more secured greenhouse. Others prefer the less expensive lightweight foundation where they use improvised materials such as railroad ties, which they can easily attach to the ground. - "Good Bugs" could be a great choice for your pest control chemical. They prevent and control the spread of the bad bugs in a greenhouse. If you find insects in your plant, you may isolate the plant and if possible place the plant outside the greenhouse so that the insects would not house the other plants.
- Allot a space where you can store fertilizers, potting soil and other tools that are essential in the greenhouse. You may place a tool rack nearer to the potting place so that it would be easier for you to transfer the soil from the pot of the plants. You may also place buckets and tool holders to accommodate the other equipment when they are not in use. You can develop and grow all sorts of plants with a versatile greenhouse. You may also propagate from the grown plants to fill the greenhouse with a variety of plants. Putting up a greenhouse will be more enjoyable if it done with the help of the family and friends.

If you consider the use of lawn sprinkler is just to watering lawns in garden or park, then you are wrong. A lawn sprinkler has other usages only if you know how to use it. So, what are some other things you are be able perform with it?
Water Toys
You can make many toys to become more fun by only adding a lawn sprinkler. The toys can make the water blast, wriggle, and move in random patterns. Play it with your friends, family or your pet. Then, just be ready to get wet and have fun.
Dog Toy
Not all dogs are able to swim and some dogs even have a real fear of water. However, on a really hot day throughout summer, Fido would love it if you turned on the lawn sprinkler. Always keep an eye on Fido when the lawn sprinkler is on, in case he thinks the water is trying to attack his territory.

Some sprinklers can be hooked to an outside spigot and then brought inside. Great to plant inside a newlywed’s bedroom for their wedding night. Make a small cover with holes in it so it is not apparent what it is and turn it on when the lights go out.
Putting Out Very Small Fires
Though a lawn sprinkler is not as good as chemical sprays, hoses or even a bucket of sand on a fire, it can be somewhat useful however. When your home as well as property are getting pretty dry, you can keep the area damp and also keep from being a fire hazard by giving a good spritz with a lawn sprinkler. It is consoling especially many if there is any family member who is smoker and like throw cigarette blunts all over the place.
